Villas on Rio Wins AGC Construction Award

Rhode Partners is thrilled to share that Villas on Rio has won a local AGC Austin Award for Outstanding Construction. These awards honor the most pioneering projects and reflects exceptional merit for construction and design. Rogers O’Brien Construction and Villas Student Housing were a part of the project team.
VIllas on Rio, a 284-unit student housing high-rise in the heart of UT’s West Campus neighborhood, opened this past fall. The first and second floors serve as flexible study and lounge areas with a mezzanine overlooking the lobby.
Historic meets modern in this dense neighborhood as the building wraps around the Kenney House, a two-story Victorian home facing West 22nd St. Full-height glass windows on the lower levels of the project feature inclusive views of the historic building.
The exterior custom-formed, faceted panels reference the 62-degree setback angle of the building curtain wall, sparking an angular language continued throughout the tower’s interior architecture.
Amenities include a vast fitness room, spa, and therapeutic features to elevate healthy living for tenants. With four levels of underground parking and 700 bedrooms, the project thoughtfully accommodates the growing need for more housing near the University of Texas campus.
