Torre

Austin, TX  |  2021 18 stories |  185,000 sf  |  153 units  |  558 beds  Scope: Architecture

Located at the southwest corner of 21st Street and Nueces Street. Torre stands in the center of West Campus at the University of Texas at Austin. The tower's dynamic, tiered composition arose in response to the specific zoning constraints and program requirements. A 62-degree setback on the north side of the building as well as an even distribution of townhomes and flats informs this layered approach, with each strata representing a shift in program while directly responding to the zoning setback plane.

Key to this project are the skip corridor interior configurations. By removing the corridor at alternating levels at the townhome tiers in the upper floors, double-height living rooms with large windows capture the would-be circulation space, creating a spacious and unique living area while maximizing rentable square footage. Oversized terraces are included at these levels, making up the tower's tiered composition and providing more leisure space for residents.
