The Independent Wins Award of excellence from CTBUH

February 23, 2021

Rhode Partners is elated to announce that The Independent has received an Award of Excellence for Interior Design from the Council of Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH) 2021 Awards Program. These international design awards reflect not only sophisticated architecture and design but also focus on individual and community impact.

As a multi-family residential project, The Independent’s interior spaces reflect a programmatic commitment to community and wellness. The tower offers two entire floors of competitive luxury condo amenities spanning 20,000 square feet. From an elegant board room to a playful dog lounge, this project connects residents from 363 units with programmatic variance across 12 different amenity spaces.

The sustainable building employed a detailed BIM-based energy model during the design process to achieve LEED Gold recognition. The project is net energy neutral a significant portion of the year due to the efficient HVAC system, regenerative elevator system, and other energy-saving measures in the building like reduced drywall by employing exposed, locally-sourced fly-ash concrete. This sophisticated use of exposed structure is combined with a refined material palette. Wood tones of walnut and white oak add warmth to the amenity spaces while luxury jewel-toned furniture celebrates color. Whether it is a blackened steel and wood conference table or a custom theatre in the playroom, each amenity space features commissioned art, statement pieces, and built-in furnishings that elevate residential living. 80 art pieces and installations were commissioned from 23 artists to help define the tower’s character. These unexpected and unique art pieces pull in viewers with their textural appeal and create a memorable space.

The project will be included in CTBUH Annual skyscraper publication, Tall Buildings + Urban Habitat, published by CTBUH and distributed internationally.
