Rhode partners takes staff retreat to tulum
Jul 16, 2021
In late June, Rhode Partners booked a getaway to Tulum, Mexico, to find design inspiration, reconnect with each other and assimilate new designers. At the heart of our firm’s culture is a curiosity and a passion for surprising and wonderful things, and the artisan-crafted architectural details and creative cocktails and cuisine of the Yucatan hit all the right notes.
The staff was free to explore at their own pace during the day. Staff explored the Sian Ka’an Biosphere with Mayan guides, visited Mayan ruins and floated down an ancient canal, snorkeled in nearby cenotes and caves, or spent the day with their feet in the sand and cold cerveza in hand. Each night, we’d meet up at a different beloved restaurant; Casa Jaguar, Meze, and Hartwood; where local harvests from Yucatan markets and farms are incorporated into the changing, daily menus. We enjoyed mezcal and conversation into the evenings and reveled in the unique architectural details we observed along the way.
Extra special highlights included watching massive sea turtles roam the beach, snorkeling with wildlife in a cenote and cave, and getting to know the intricacies of daily life from local, Mayan guides who educated us on the complex and sacred archeology of Tulum’s history.
This staff retreat with our fellow designers allowed for a recalibration and reset—garnering a fresh perspective with sights set on the firm’s future growth and new projects on the horizon.
